New iPhone OS 4.0 features allow for enhanced mobile advertising functions

Smaato Inc. the leading mobile ad optimization company announced today the new version of iSOMA SDK for iPad applications and mobile websites.

“There is a lot of excitement in the mobile publishing market about the iPad and new features in the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 release. We are happy to continue our support for the iPhone platform and the iPad as the new addition to mobile device choices,” stated Ragnar Kruse, CEO & Co-Founder of Smaato Inc.

The iSOMA for iPad SDK will support multiple new ad formats including the universal ad package (UAP) of the iab – the online association that set the standards for the launch of the online advertising economy. In addition mobile ad formats of the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) are supported as well, including new rich media banner formats that are emerging from Smaato’s 36 ad network partners.

Apple’s iPad is a hybrid mobile device that is expected to be heavily used to surf the web, consumer media apps as well as play with mobile entertainment offerings. First applications and media offerings from publishers of TIME, Wall Street Journal and the New York Times are using a blend of new innovative advertising formats that add multimedia functions, like video and sound.

Smaato Advanced Mobile Analytics will be included in the iPad SDK 1.0 and provides a comprehensive set of tools that enable mobile publishers to optimize their inventory for the iPad to maximize user experience and insights.

Smaato will make the new iSOMA for iPad version available for free download with registration on the sign-up portal at www.smaato.com/signup

(…) the numbers are for the all-important click-through rates on the various platforms. (…) with the average CTR on ads for all mobile platforms set to 100, Symbian led the way by far with a 161 score. This was followed by the iPhone (and iPod touch) with 119. Android? They’re way down the list with a 65. Only Palm and BlackBerry fared worse. (…)

But you’d be wrong. Some new December data from the mobile advertising company Smaato suggests that it’s actually Symbian that kills both the iPhone and Android. Now, I know what you’re thinking: that’s because Nokia, despite the buzz surrounding the sexier smartphone devices, remains the biggest mobile player in the world. But actually, the numbers are for the all-important click-through rates on the various platforms.

Smaato has the pleasure to announce a partnership with iPhoneDeveloperTips.com, an recognized iPhone Applications Development blog. The partnership extends from mutual information exchange, to common online advertising with the intention of show the benefits of SOMA Mobile Ad Optimizer to iPhone Developers/Publishers, as well as to provide to Smaato’s network a great source of tips on iPhone Development.

Hint: Smaato is scheduled to release a new version of iSOMA Version 3.0 in August – Beta testers interested in the code please send an email to: .

A few lines of today’s iPhone Developer Tips post:

This service [SOMA Platform] is unique in that it provides a means to simplify ad management across a range of ad networks.

Put another way, you can publish ads from a number of ad sources within your iPhone applications using one set of code. Speaking from experience in working with ad engines and other third-party plug-ins and tools, I’m always one for integration if it makes for less code to manage.

As shown in the figure below, SOMA provides a one-stop shop for publishing ads across a range of ad engines. SOMA manages the backend connection to the ad networks, offering consolidated reporting as well. (…)

AD NETWORK PERFORMANCE METRICS:

The SOMA dashboard for publishers is easy to use and gives you an intuitive access to all the data you need. We are constantly working on improvements to provide you with the most important information for your ad inventory.

As you know SOMA aggregates multiple leading ad networks worldwide and therefore you receive the highest fillrate with the highest available price in real time in each market.

The latest feature of the dashboard is an anonymous ad network breakdown for each country. This gives you the possibility to compare the performance of single ad networks in every country and gives you an idea of the individual fill rates.

SOMA SUPPORTS AD SERVER BEACONS:

Like the online advertising market several years ago the mobile advertising market starts demanding trusted parties to validate traffic, data and performance. Beacons or so called tracking pixels help to count the view of the advertisers ad via a third party and to double check ad server delivery in order to prevent fraud.

Smaato takes the initiative to provide market transparency. Even though it is not widely implemented yet with all ad networks, SOMA today already supports the integration of beacons from any ad server. Supported beacon technologies today include Microsoft Atlas, Eyeblaster, Quattro Wireless and OpenX – with more to come. An updated SOMA Server API documentation will be available shortly.
