Smaato published a white paper, written by Nick Lane, Chief Analyst at mobileSQUARED, on the mobile advertising market in South-East-Asia.

The white paper, based on new research from mobileSQUARED, reveals information on the mobile Internet boom in Asia. In 2010 more than 400 million people will have access to the mobile Internet and the average mobile Internet user across Asia will generate 26.47 page impressions per day. This means that users in Asia will be producing over 15 billion page impressions on a daily basis, including Japan and China. The total spending in the mobile advertising market is predicted to be about $1.5billion for 2010.

The white paper also describes the other side of the coin, with the difficulties brands face when trying to enter this complex market. While the numbers are impressive, research also suggests that only 8% of traffic is converted into mobile advertising inventory. The South-East Asian region has more than 400 devices in use, mostly feature phones that are running on 2G networks. With a rapid growth of the smartphone market share, comes slowly a relief to the problem of handset fragmentation.

The Asia-Pacific region shows a huge potential for growth in the mobile advertising space. We are proud to have established a Singapore presence already in 2009 and will continue to hire to grow our local team. As the Smaato Metrics and this white paper show – this is a complex market which has its own rules and requirements. We welcome partners that help us continue to grow the mobile marketing economy together, stated Ragnar Kruse, CEO & Co-Founder of Smaato.

The whitepaper is available to download at www.smaato.com/whitepaper.

New iPhone OS 4.0 features allow for enhanced mobile advertising functions

Smaato Inc. the leading mobile ad optimization company announced today the new version of iSOMA SDK for iPad applications and mobile websites.

“There is a lot of excitement in the mobile publishing market about the iPad and new features in the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 release. We are happy to continue our support for the iPhone platform and the iPad as the new addition to mobile device choices,” stated Ragnar Kruse, CEO & Co-Founder of Smaato Inc.

The iSOMA for iPad SDK will support multiple new ad formats including the universal ad package (UAP) of the iab – the online association that set the standards for the launch of the online advertising economy. In addition mobile ad formats of the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association) are supported as well, including new rich media banner formats that are emerging from Smaato’s 36 ad network partners.

Apple’s iPad is a hybrid mobile device that is expected to be heavily used to surf the web, consumer media apps as well as play with mobile entertainment offerings. First applications and media offerings from publishers of TIME, Wall Street Journal and the New York Times are using a blend of new innovative advertising formats that add multimedia functions, like video and sound.

The capital will be used to grow the company’s leadership position as the largest mobile advertising optimizer, and to grow its global presence.

“Our mission is to give mobile publishers a dependable mobile advertising solution for their worldwide inventory to maximize mobile revenues. We provide an innovative mobile advertising optimization and mediation platform that can deliver ads in 215+ countries for mobile web and apps. This new round of funding will help us further expand our network of now 33 ad networks globally and continue to provide the best possible choice and service to our customers. We have recently opened our Singapore presence and as a result of the funding we will continue to strengthen our position in other regions”, stated Ragnar Kruse, CEO and Co-Founder of Smaato.

More than 1000 publishers have signed up with Smaato as a partner to monetize their content so far and Smaato is managing close to 3 billion ad requests per month. Mobile publishers, mobile developers, ad networks and operators partner with Smaato to maximize mobile advertising with aggregation of multiple leading ad networks worldwide. Working with mobile ad networks on a global scale, Smaato has a unique offering to the market: relevant local ads combined globally in a single sign-up process at www.smaato.com.

“The mobile advertising market is growing rapidly and it has proved to be a profitable business even in recessionary periods. In fact, we have seen mobile advertising increase dramatically over the past 12 months. We see enormous potential to grow the business and our geographical offering,” continued Mr. Kruse.

“As demand increases worldwide for mobile advertising solutions, we see Smaato as the pioneer in the space, capable of leading a true change in the market. As investors, we’re excited to work with the experienced Smaato team who are at the forefront of what we believe will be a huge and beneficial shift for both consumers and mobile companies alike.” stated Uwe Feuersenger, CEO of aeris CAPITAL.

A free downloadable version of their application can also be downloaded from the DialPlus website starting next week.

DialPlus enriches the standard phone call experience by automatically and simultaneously providing dynamic, contextually relevant visual information about the called or calling party before the call is answered, during the call and after the call is over.

Congratulations DialPlus. We are proud that the winner of the first Smaato Award has been so successful with T-Mobile and that it is the first Smaato ad-enabled application to be rolled-out on deck with a major US carrier. The idea of this competition is to give young mobile start-ups global recognition and visibility with VC’s and the media as well as providing introductions to key influencers in the industry – it clearly helped last year and we hope that this year’s winner will be equally as successful as DialPlus, said Ragnar Kruse, CEO & Co-Founder of Smaato Inc.

We were honored to be selected by the judges as the winner of the Smaato Mobile Advertising Award 2008. This was a strong validation of the DialPlus product vision that incorporated mobile advertising and winning the competition opened many doors for funding and business opportunities, said Lisa LeVasseur, CEO of DialPlus.
